We Breed Genetically Healthy Golden Retrievers for Hawaii

This website is currently under construction. More information and pictures for our studs, dams, and pups to be added soon.

We have Magnificent studs imported from champion titled pedigree lines in Australia who will help make the future not only for Magnificent Golden Retrievers but for you and your ohana as well. Our Magnificent dams, Sasha (Magnificent Sasha Princess of Kaneohe Bay, AKC Registration Number SS43686003) and Scarlet (Magnificent Scarlet of Kaneohe Bay, AKC Registration Number SS39533201), have a high aptitude for learning as evidenced by their strong ball drive. They’ve been easy to train and are sweet, gentle and playful. They love the ocean and adventuring to the sandbar, and if they could they’d spend all day in the pool. Truly, water dogs.

Scarlet and Sasha, sisters, have developed similar seasons, in September/October and in March/April. We are favoring their September/October season to carefully and intently pair them with the chosen stud. We are fortunate to be working with both Kruse (Goldmartini Remember The Time, AKC Registration Number SS45120901, formerly registered with the Australian National Kennel Club as 4100389765) and Rio (Santamaria Hawaii Fling, AKC Registration Number SS46592101, formerly registered with the Australian National Kennel Club as 3100476094). *Kruse resides with an Oahu family nearby under a guardianship agreement. If nature allows, Magnificent puppies could be available to their furever good homes, Hawaii statewide, by December 2025. For those residing on outer islands, flying interisland back home with your new puppy is easy. We love facilitating the simple process that is puppy pick out day (when the pups are approx. 5 weeks old), and the ever so exciting take home day (when the pups are approx. 8 weeks old).

How We Ensure We’re Providing Hawaii with Impeccable Examples of the Breed

Genetic Testing and DNA Health

We utilize Embark Dog DNA testing for all our breeding dogs, ensuring they are clear of any disease-causing genes. Embark screens for over 270 genetic health risks, including Golden Retriever-specific Ichthyosis (ICH). ICH is a common condition in Golden Retrievers, especially in Hawaii, and leads to chronic skin issues like flaking and irritation. Beyond skin problems, ICH can also suppress the immune system, making affected dogs more vulnerable to secondary infections, chronic hot spots, and ear issues. However, all of our dogs are ICH clear, meaning they do not even carry a single copy of the gene. This significantly reduces the risk of these immune-related problems and ensures our puppies have the healthiest possible start in life.

Speaking of skin and coat health, Scarlet and Rio’s last litter (born in November) is growing into stunning young dogs with thick yet soft feathering. Sasha and Kruse should produce even fuller coats, as Sasha has long feathering and a classic Golden Retriever headdress, while Scarlet carries a sporty, field-style coat.

Hip Health: PenHip Scoring, OFA Certification & Environmental Factors

All of our breeding dogs have undergone PennHIP evaluations AND receive OFA certifications. While hip scoring is a valuable tool for assessing joint health, genetics alone do not determine a dog’s developmental and long-term hip health. Even when both parents have desirable hip scores, as ours do, some puppies may still develop hip dysplasia due to environmental factors like nutrition, over-exercise, and injury. This leads us to our health guarantee.

Healthy Hips Promise

We offer a one-year warranty for early-onset hip dysplasia, which applies if:

1. A veterinarian diagnoses the puppy with hip dysplasia.

2. The vet confirms the condition is primarily genetic in origin.

3. The puppy has been fed a nutritionally balanced diet (with at least three meals per day from take-home to 6 months old, then at least two balanced meals per day beyond that).

4. The puppy has not been over-exercised (e.g., no jogging with your pup before 18 months old).

5. The puppy has not suffered an injury (e.g., rough play with other dogs, falls from heights, accidental drops, etc.).

Because hip health is influenced by nutrition and activity, we encourage all new puppy owners to take advantage of the growth stage by incorporating joint-supportive supplements into their puppy’s diet. This can include glucosamine tablets or a homemade gravy made with gelatin powder and chicken bone broth that is poured over their food.

We also strongly recommend feeding fresh whole foods atop a good-quality kibble. For example, 808 Raw (available on Oahu and Big Island) offers excellent raw beef organ blends and green beef tripe. Other options that are found in the grocery store include lean ground meats (beef, turkey, lamb, chicken), cottage cheese, and fresh vegetables (like Broccoli Normandy precut veggie mix from Sams or Costco). Supplementing kibble with these fresh foods helps support a growing puppy’s joints, tendons, and overall health. That being said, having a high-quality canned food like Nulo and fresh (not stale) quality kibble like Members Mark brand from Sams Club is always useful for busy days when preparing fresh meals isn’t possible.

We are proud to use Embark Dog DNA testing as a key way to help improve the golden retriever breed in Hawaii, and we use hip/elbow radiographs taken by our veterinarian to receive more valuable insight via the Penn Hip Improvement Program, largely known as PennHIP, and via grading by Orthopedic Foundation for Animals (OFA).
